In light of President Trump’s travel ban on refugees and arrivals from seven Muslim-majority countries, Astoria’s elected officials are standing up in support of the local Muslim community.

Congressman Joe Crowley, State Senator Michael Gianaris, Assemblywoman Aravella Simotas and Councilman Costa Constantinides are joining the Muslim American Society (MAS) of Queens, the Ansob Center for Refugees and others for the Friday evening rally.

Here’s a blurb from the Facebook event:

“The Astoria community stands together with Muslim-Americans. Muslim-Americans and Muslim immigrants are a core part of Astoria’s history and community. Our nation was founded by immigrants and immigration continues to be an integral part of achieving the American Dream.”

The event will begin at 25th Avenue and Steinway Street on Friday at 5 p.m.
