Assemblywoman Aravella Simotas is hosting a free event tomorrow to inform seniors about how to best avoid scams and frauds.

Featuring speakers from the Queens District Attorney’s office and the New York City Police Department (NYPD), it will focus on how the elderly are frequent targets of financial frauds.

Tomorrow’s event will be at the Catholic Charities Dellamonica Steinway Senior Center at 23-56 Broadway from 11 a.m. to noon.

Simotas will have another event on October 25th from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. at the HANAC Harmony JVL Innovative Senior Center at 27-40 Hoyt Avenue South.

“I hope these events will empower seniors to recognize the warning signs when they’re being targeted by a con artist or scammer so they can avoid being victims,” Simotas said. “But if they do fall prey to a scam, knowing who to call for help and how to fight back is equally important.”

Speakers at tomorrow’s event include: PO Edward Soto from the 114th Precinct’s Community Affairs Unit, Assistant District Attorney Kristen Kane, who is the deputy chief of the Elder Fraud Unit of the Queens District Attorney’s Office, and Assemblywoman Aravella Simotas.
