Sierra Shields’s remains found

One of the more bizarre, confounding and mysterious cases of a lost person has come to a sad end.

Sierra Shields, a 30-year-old Astoria resident, went missing in January. She was last seen leaving LaGuardia Airport, where she worked, on foot. She was wearing a navy blue dress.

Her family and community were searching for Shields for months, to no avail. On September 16, the NYPD reported that they found her remains.

On Wednesday, September 14, at approximately 3:10 p.m., human remains were found at the shore of Riker’s Island West. Detectives from the 114th Precinct and the Medical Examiner responded to investigate.

Based on the examination, they determined that the body was that of the missing Shields.
