Elected officials and local civic leaders are demanding that Club Purlieu, at 36-04 34th Street, close its business for good.

Two councilmen from the area, Jimmy Van Bramer and Costa Constantinides, said the club was dangerous to the surrounding community in a Monday morning rally.

“This club is a clear and present danger to the people of this community,” Van Bramer said.

The rally came after a cab driver was shot in the head while driving patrons to and from the club two weeks ago. An incident inside the club last year also led to three stabbings.

Multiple agencies raided the club and temporarily closed it last Thursday, but it remains open. Now, community leaders are asking the State Liquor Authority (SLA) to revoke its liquor license.
