Last year, Councilman Costa Costantinides earmarked more than $1 million to projects proposed by community members as part of the participatory budgeting process. The funding was allocated to improving technology in district schools and creating a playground at I.S. 126 and a new dog run.

“Participatory budgeting was a huge success last year,” Constantinides said in his State of the District address on January 25. “We hope to make it an even bigger success this year.”

For Fiscal Year 2017, the Astoria councilman is setting aside $1.5 million for participatory budgeting. Starting in late march, community members can go to a voting site, listed above, to help decide where the money will go.
